Circle of Friends Updates

The Circle Of Friends (COF) has had a busy year baking and selling cookies with all the elections in 2012. We opened a new account with the Madison Community Foundation (MCF) and also have the account with the Madison Parks Foundation (MPF). Both accounts are 501(c)(3) allowing all donations to be tax deductible.

A big thanks goes to a long time Northside family that gave $10,000 to the MCF for the Warner Pool Fund.

Our major goal is the Warner Pool with all the money we raise for the pool going into the Warner Pool account with the Madison Community Foundation (MCF). We now have raised over $173,000 for the pool in addition to a pledge of $25,000 when we break ground.  The COF has also taken the lead on raising funds for equipment for the exercise room. Please drop off your donations when you come in to exercise.  Every dollar helps!

Mark your calendars – COF events for 2013 include:

Membership in the COF is open to all residents that use the WPCRC and want to be a part of it’s continuing growth and success. Board members are selected from COF members that have volunteered to help and have the time to participate on a working board. We need someone that can keep our web page up to date. Our board members are all volunteers … we have no paid staff.

New members and volunteers are always welcome.  If interested please contact: Dorothy Borchardt at dborchardt1@charter.net  or Steve Nelson at onelly@charter.net

Teams must be registered and have paid the $100 by July 31, 2012. Once your team is registered, you can continue to add to your team right up to the time of the walk but they can’t be counted as additional team members after August 15th. Go for the largest team and win the traveling trophy!

Thank You!

On August 28th the Circle Of Friends held it’s 6th annual Pounding the Pavement for a Pool to raise funds and community awareness for the Warner Pool. Once again our northside businesses helped us out. Walgreens and Road Ranger provided the water, PDQ provided cookies and Pierce’s donated the apples. We had participation from all ages … grandmas & grandpas to grandchildren.

Congratulations to Melissa Sargent’s & Dorothy Wheeler’s team, Melissa for Dane County! Their team won the traveling trophy for the team with the largest number of team members. Also, a big thanks to Steve Nelson from DuWayne’s Salon for raising the most cash … $1,100!

Thanks to all the all the other team captains, their teams and to all the volunteers and sponsors that helped make the walk a special event.

COOKIES for the POOL – To those of you that vote at the WPCRC you know the Circle of Friends sells fresh baked Chocolate Chip Cookies on Election Day. Thanks to all of you …for not only voting … but for buying cookies to help the Warner Pool fund. A HUGE thanks to the bakers, the sellers and Center staff. Stop and see us on election day, November 2. We always need more volunteers. The cookies are all mixed and ready to bake. If you want to volunteer contact: dborchardt1@charter.net.

Circle of Friends Golf Outing a Success

The Golf Outing was a huge success thanks to our wonderful sponsors, celebrities, golfers and the weather. We gained a new major supporter. The Sanger Foundation gave the CoF a gift of $25,000 and golfed with us for the first time. To top the day off Mike Johnson had a hole in one! Join the fun on Friday, May 21, 2010.

Get ready for the second half of our fundraiser. Saturday, August 29th join the Circle of Friends for the 5th annual Pounding the Pavement for the Warner Pool. Walk around the Warner Lagoon to raise funds and awareness for Madison’s second pool, slated to be in Warner Park. Don’t be left out! Sign up your family, neighbors, friends and businesses to get their team name on the 2009 walk t-shirt. All it takes is ten walkers to form a team. The cost is $10 for each team member. Teams must be registered and have paid the $100 entry fee by August 1, 2009. Once your team is registered, you can continue to add team members right up to the time of the walk but they can’t be counted as additional team members after August 24th when the contest ends. Go for the largest team and win the traveling trophy! DuWayne’s Salon is planning on re-capturing the trophy this year from Helen’s Hoofers. Surprise both teams by your team winning the trophy.

For those that don’t have a team…not to worry…you can still participate. Register right up to the time of the walk.
